CFD-RESEARCH

CFD stands for Computational Fluid Dynamics. CFD-simulations will be used in the Olympic Wind Project as a design-instrument. First, a zero-measurement of the expected situation for 2020 will be made (displayed in the images). From this first simulation preliminary conclusions can be drawn relating to the wind-quality at pedestrian level, and the influence of the surrounding buildings upon this situation.

Architectural design steps will be made in conjunction with new simulations, thus providing an opportunity to form the design into a desired shape relating to the wind situation. Here the design process is not only inspired by wind, we will actually design with wind.

The usage of CFD-software as an architectural design-instrument is relatively complex and time consuming. This will pose several challenges and requires each design-step to be well thought through before modeling and simulating it in CFD-software.
