OLYMPIC-RESEARCH

An extended investigation into the parameters that make the Olympic Games possible. This research led from historical and cultural explorations to programmatic demands and infrastructural possibilities.

In collaboration with Tijl Uijtenhaak an extensive infrastructural approach towards the 2028 Olympics was developed. In this vision, the Olympics will be used as a catalyst to make some complicated infrastructural developments possible. It involves the phased relocation of Schiphol airport to an artificial island in the North Sea, and the development of a new, high-speed transportation system that connects the main Randstad cities within just several minutes of traveling time.

As for The Hague, a second and third transport-ring are connected to the main transportation system. All in all, the seaside location of Scheveningen can be reached well within 45 minutes from our proposed main Olympic site near the current Schiphol airport terminal.
